8.5/10

8.5
The most helpful definition of high performance I’ve ever come across.

It’s beautifully simple.
Easy to understand.
And allows for the simple truth that life gets in the way.

8.5 / 10 consistently over time

This is the bar, as an individual, team or organization.

It’s where the ever-inspiring Owen Eastwood says he’s landed after years of coaching and enabling high performance in business and sport.

From an international sports team to a small, local charity, if we’re all showing up and collectively delivering 8.5 we’re high performing.

The 8.5 allows for the bad days, the mistakes and the unforeseen.
It doesn’t pretend perfection is attainable.

Keeping this in mind individually and as a group can be hugely powerful.

In a team, it means we need to be mindful and empathetic of ofhers - prepared to step in and compensate when they’re below the line. Ask for help when we are ourselves.

We’ve used it a couple of times in recent weeks as a leadership team at cook.

What does it mean for us to be showing up at 8.5 as individuals over the course of a strategy offsite? Reflecting and sharing.

What enables us to achieve 8.5 over time in our role? And what gets in the way? Again, reflecting and sharing.

Give it a go.

And 🙏 Owen Eastwood for such a generous and perceptive interview on the @Eat Sleep pod with Bruce Daisley. So many great nuggets. My top pod of 2024 so far (link in comments).
